We held a Christmas party for students in our children's dance classes
What a fantastic way to start to wrap up our year!
We wanted to gift the children a fun-filled party as a thank you for all of their hard work and enthusiasm over what has been a very busy year.
In the space of 12 months, they will have prepared for three dance shows, performed in two, achieved incredible results in their ISTD Dance Exams, and are part way along in their journey of preparing for their next set of exams.
We also wanted to give parents an opportunity to come together to socialise and experience the magic and enjoyment that happens at our dance studio.
The invite extended to all of the children’s dance classes that happen here at our Cardiff studio. From our youngest students who dance in our Pre-school Hwyl a Sbri class for 2-4 year olds to our pre-teenagers in the Commercial Hip hop, Ballet and Modern Theatre and Tap classes. We had a fantastic turnout, so much so that we had to split the party into two sessions to accommodate you all!
Our wonderful dance teachers and staff Ffion, Megan, and Layla set about putting their magic touch on the studio. They turned the dance studio into a sparkly Christmas grotto, complete with a sparkly tree.
My highlights from the day
One of my highlights from the day was from the second party, which our older students attended. I added a few of our upcoming show routine songs and a few old favorites to the playlist. The children did not hang about in giving an impromptu show to everyone who was there of their 21 Reasons, Perfect Day, Hot N Cold, and Mee Too routines.
Another highlight of mine was watching the children completely enthralled watching our surprise special guests. We had arranged for some of our friends from Spotlight Ballet Performers to perform for the children. For the children who attend our Ballet lessons, it was a wonderful way to show them what their hard work and dedication can amount to. The children couldn’t stop talking about their favourite “super stretchy dancer who pointed at Georgia” and loved that they could pose for photos with Santa’s ballerinas.
The Wider Benefits of Dance Education
We have now had the pleasure of hosting two parties for the children at the dance studio. These events have been invaluable in building on the sense of community for our dance school. They have given the children an opportunity to socialise and play with their friends and teachers outside of lessons, develop their confidence in social situations, and feel connected to the wider Flame family. Dance education is about a lot more than just teaching children how to move to music, it should contribute to every aspect of the child's development. Events like these help to realise that aim.
I want to thank every one of you who made the Christmas party a success. From our teachers who worked incredibly hard to plan, decorate, and adorn over a hundred arms and cheeks with glitter tattoos, to the parents who took time out of their busy Saturdays to bring the children along.
Also, a huge thank you to all of our students who made the day so fun and kept me dancing the whole party!
A big thank you to the companies that helped bring a sprinkle of magic, Spotlight Ballet Performers and Life of Reilly Coffee.
